Council takes no action on transferring 57 East Broad Street to downtown development authority

The DDA is a state-authorized authority under Official Code of Georgia Annotated section 36-42-1 that may execute real-estate transactions on behalf of municipalities.
City staff told the council the city does not intend to develop the property in-house and that state law limits direct city sale processes; a transfer to the DDA would allow the authority to pursue development options and price negotiations that the city itself cannot conduct outside of public-bid requirements. After discussion the council unanimously voted to take no action on the intergovernmental agreement at this time, leaving the possibility open for future consideration.
Why it matters: transferring authority to a development authority would change how the city handles disposition of the property and could accelerate private redevelopment. The council’s decision to take no action preserves city control for now and allows staff to return with further information if desired.
