HURON — The Huron City Council on June 24 authorized the city manager to enter into an $80,412 agreement with DLZ Ohio Inc. for construction inspection, administration and materials testing on the Cleveland Road East Sidewalk Extension Project under Resolution 45-2025.
City staff said the inspection and administration contract is the last piece needed to schedule the sidewalk work and that the project is fully funded with grant money. "This is the last piece to slide into place so we can get this project scheduled," Mr. Hamilton, a city staff member, told the council.
Council members heard that the city issued a request for qualifications for inspection services and DLZ was the only respondent. Staff said DLZ scored well during the evaluation and checked references. "They come highly recommended," Mr. Hamilton said.
On timing, Mr. Hamilton told council the contractor and the city's inspection team will coordinate schedules but estimated the work would begin by late summer, run roughly two months and be finished by fall. A council member asked whether the work could start earlier; Mr. Hamilton said August was the worst-case start and that staff hoped to start sooner.
Council moved to waive the three-reading rule and place Resolution 45-2025 on its first reading, and later proceeded to final adoption. The council recorded a roll call vote in support of the resolution.
Next steps include execution of the inspection agreement and coordination between the contractor and the city's inspection and construction teams to set firm start and completion dates.
