The Atascadero City Council unanimously approved a resolution to place the city’s annual sewer service charges on the 2025–26 property tax rolls following a public hearing with no speakers.
The nut graf: Public Works Analyst Ryan Betts explained that under the municipal code the city may collect fixed sewer service charges via the county property tax roll; staff said the city has used this method since assuming the county sanitation district in 1984 and the charges support the sewer enterprise fund’s operations and capital needs.
Betts told council the program covers roughly 5,600 parcels and is expected to generate about $5,700,000 for the sewer enterprise next year; the county charges an additional $2 processing fee per parcel for inclusion on the tax roll. Council received one technical question from Councilmember Funk about a single large bill that staff confirmed belongs to the Bordeaux Apartments and that the property manager typically receives the single parcel bill and apportions charges internally.
Councilmember Peake moved to adopt the resolution and another councilmember seconded; roll call was unanimous in favor. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
Ending: Staff said the charge will appear on taxpayers’ bills as a discrete sewer charge labeled on the property tax roll; the matter is routine and required annually to continue collecting via the county tax roll.
