Superintendent proposes 'Flagler Schools Engagement Center' as temporary name for courthouse site

Superintendent Leshaka Moore told the Flagler County School Board on June 24 that the district will refer to the renovated historic courthouse space as the "Flagler Schools Engagement Center" while the board’s naming policy is finalized, to avoid confusion for first responders and the public.
"We have to call it something other than the courthouse," Moore said, explaining that emergency responders and staff need a distinguishable operational name when programs move into the building July 1. The district plans to move several programs into the facility and recommended a descriptive name that signals community access and engagement.
Why it matters: the board’s current naming policy requires a community committee to propose names; a new draft policy under consideration would let the superintendent present naming options for board selection. District staff advised the board that a committee process would be appropriate for permanent naming of a building with historical significance, but that a temporary operational name was required immediately for safety and logistics.
