District attorney seeks five‑year Westlaw contract; commissioners add it to consent agenda

District Attorney Bernie Cantorna asked the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday to approve a five‑year contract with Westlaw for legal research services and the board voted to add the contract to next week's consent agenda.
"It's probably the best research product out there," Bernie said, explaining the office had used Westlaw previously and negotiated a five‑year agreement that aligns with pricing offered elsewhere. "There is a slight difference of $7,000 over the course of the five years, but that buys quite a bit of employee satisfaction in the DA's office."
Bernie said the office manager led the negotiation. Commissioners thanked Bernie and staff for the work; one commissioner made a light remark about returning to print books, which Bernie declined.
A motion to add the Thomas Reuters (Westlaw) contract to the next consent agenda carried. Staff said other court offices use Westlaw but the details of their contracts were not provided at the meeting. The formal contract will return for approval on the consent agenda next week.
