The Isla Vista Community Services District board used part of the meeting to recognize departing staff and partners and to acknowledge the work of student interns.
The board adopted a resolution thanking UCSB Police Chief Alex Yao for 30 years in law enforcement and service that included collaboration with the district on student safety programs; the resolution passed by roll-call vote. Directors praised Chief Yaos partnership during the transition back to in-person campus life after the COVID-19 pandemic and his support for joint safety efforts.
The board also adopted a resolution honoring Fiona Sausage for multiple roles over several years, including community engagement project manager and work on the Isla Vista Mobility Plan, the compost collective and outreach programs. Directors and staff described Sausage as a creative, community-focused contributor; the board presented a framed resolution and remarks recognizing her service and wished her well in future plans.
Staff also acknowledged several interns who recently finished terms with the district: two long-term interns who had graduated this year, and other recent contributors including a data-analytics intern and community-engagement interns. District staff described their contributions to programs such as the compost collective, move-out operations, community-space programming and data dashboards.
Directors and staff thanked all departing employees and interns, encouraged them to remain involved with Isla Vista, and noted the district will post job openings as roles are vacated. No formal actions beyond the resolutions and public expressions of thanks were taken.
