Board approves multiple student expulsions, pauses one case for off‑air handling

Marion County School Board members voted Tuesday to approve expulsions for a list of students for the remainder of the 2024‑25 school year and the full 2025‑26 school year, while pausing one student’s case for off‑air consideration after a parent requested to speak.

At the meeting the board approved expulsions by motion and unanimous vote for multiple students identified in the agenda by student ID numbers. During the procedural discussion the board noted one student (JD25322E) had requested off‑air handling and had not completed required documentation to dispute consequences; the board agreed to pull that student from the public vote and address that matter separately off the public record.

Separately, the board approved expulsions for two students (JD25‑309 and JD25‑321) with placement on off‑campus virtual learning for the remainder of 2024‑25 and the entire 2025‑26 school year. The board also approved a modification to the expulsion duration for student JD25‑15 after materials showed the original out‑of‑county determination covered a different period than initially reflected in the district’s paperwork; the board approved the modification unanimously.

Board members and counsel discussed the importance of hearing timely parent challenges before voting. Attorney Powers advised waiting to vote on matters if a timely speaker wished to be heard. The board noted expulsions are serious actions and followed standard hearing, documentation and procedural requirements.
