Supervisors adopt rezone to general industrial for New Cooperative Inc.; one supervisor abstains

Woodbury County supervisors adopted a zoning ordinance map amendment on final reading to rezone a parcel (ending in 1012) from Agricultural Preservation (AP) to General Industrial (GI) for New Cooperative Inc.
Daniel Priestley of Planning and Zoning opened and closed the required public hearings; no public speakers registered opposition. The board approved the third and final reading and then adopted the amendment.
Supervisor Mark Nelson announced he would abstain from the adoption vote because his family's farm does business with New Cooperative at another location. "Our family does, farm does business with New Cooperative, not at this location, but at another site. And so, just in the name of transparency, I will be abstaining for the vote," Nelson said. Nelson also said he supported the project despite the abstention.
The motion to adopt the map amendment passed 4-0 with Nelson abstaining. The board's action updates the county zoning map to allow general industrial uses on the specified parcel and completes the county's statutorily required public hearing and readings for a zoning map amendment.
Planning staff will update county records and notify relevant stakeholders of the change. No additional conditions were adopted as part of the motion.
