Council accepts $4.02 million FTA grant and approves Rio Metro coordination for rail-underpass design

The Santa Fe City Council approved federal transit funding and local project coordination to support public transportation operations and a rail-trail underpass design.
Staff told the council the FTA Section 5307 award of $4,018,120 covers operating assistance for transit (payroll and fringe) across fiscal years and will be allocated into fiscal-year 2025 transit revenues and expenses. The grant covers formula funds for FY21 and FY22 that had a delayed award; staff said approximately $2.2 million will be expended in FY25 and about $1.8 million in FY26.
The council also approved a master agreement with Rio Metro Regional Transit District for railroad coordination on city projects and a technical budget amendment allocating $42,792 in road-impact fees to complete the Saint Michael’s Drive rail-trail underpass WIP design.
Both measures passed on roll-call votes. Staff said the FTA award will reimburse operating expenses and the Rio Metro agreement is intended to support coordination required for projects that interface with rail property.
