The Marion County School Board approved the district’s Carl D. Perkins (secondary) grant allocation for the 2025‑26 school year, totaling $819,905, to support career and technical education (CTE) programs.
Kathy Ady, the district’s CTE administrator, told the board Perkins funds will pay for travel and substitute costs for teachers attending student competitions (HOSA, FFA), teacher training and professional development, equipment upgrades in CTE programs, consumables for culinary programs, and one CTE instructional support unit that oversees college articulations and new teacher support.
Planned equipment purchases include hospital beds and mannequins for health programs, tractors and mowers for agriculture, tire changers for automotive programs, and EKG simulators for electrocardiograph technician coursework. Ady said Perkins funds enable the district to keep CTE programs up to date each year.
Board members asked how parents would be notified of course options supported by the grant; Ady said the district maintains an updated CTE website, publishes annual postings listing course offerings, produces a newspaper listing, and mails information to qualifying students. The board approved the grant application by unanimous vote.
