The Santa Fe City Council approved a budget amendment transferring $1,400,000 from the general fund balance to public-works capital accounts for replacement of the roof and engineering of the HVAC system at a city-owned facility leased to La Familia Medical Center.
City staff said the owner/tenant relationship obligates the city to maintain major building systems under the lease and the roof and air-conditioning units required urgent work that could not wait. City Manager (speaking for staff) told the council the work is needed expeditiously and the general fund transfer was the quickest funding path.
Councilor Castro noted that La Familia is on a month-to-month lease and asked the city to pursue a longer-term lease discussion with the organization. The motion to approve the transfer passed on a roll-call vote.
