Sussex County Council on May 20 approved an addendum to the county’s wastewater agreement with the Town of Georgetown that caps reimbursements from the town following lower‑than‑expected project costs.
Victor (presenting for finance/engineering) told the council that a joint project intended to relieve Georgetown’s shortfall at its wastewater treatment plant came in under cost estimates. To avoid unfairly charging Georgetown, the county proposed capping reimbursements based on the agreed flow distributions: Georgetown will carry two‑thirds of the allocated cost and the county one‑third, with the existing reimbursement mechanism otherwise unchanged.
Council approved the second addendum on a recorded vote. The change alters only the reimbursement cap mechanism; it does not change the underlying cost‑sharing or the prior agreement’s flow allocations, according to county staff.
