Jefferson County Board of Education approves contract for new superintendent

The Jefferson County Board of Education voted unanimously May 29 to approve an employment contract for Dr. Brian Yearwood to serve as superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools effective July 1, 2025.

Board members moved to approve the contract during the meeting; the motion was made by Board member Mister Craig and seconded by Board member Mister Bass. The roll call recorded Board members Mister Everett, Miss Duncan, Shoal, Lister, Craig and Strange as voting in favor; the chair then declared, "That is unanimous." The board did not record any opposing votes or amendments to the contract during the session.

The contract and its effective date were circulated to the board in advance of the vote, and no questions were raised on the record before the motion was called. After the vote the board approved a motion to adjourn, moved by Mister Everett and seconded by Miss Strange.
