Fayette County schools report near-complete Mary E. Britton and 'The Hill' CTE hub; multiple projects continue

Chief Operating Officer Myron Thompson told the Fayette County Board of Education on June 23 that Mary E. Britton Middle School and the district—s Hub for Innovation, called "The Hill," are essentially complete and that work continues on several other facility projects.
Thompson said Mary E. Britton is "about 98% right now" and described the new building as a "state of the art project" with programs in agriculture, health sciences, orchestra and visual arts and a modern media center. "We have this project ready to open in the fall," he said.
The presentation included photos and renderings of the Hub for Innovation at 100 Midland Avenue. Thompson said that hub is also roughly 98% complete and highlighted career and technical education (CTE) offerings including heavy-equipment and culinary labs, EMT training, a firefighting classroom and a flight simulator. "This is just a transformative experience there on 100 Midland Avenue for our students and scholars," he said.
Thompson reported other ongoing work: preschool classroom and HVAC upgrades at Harrison Elementary ("roughly 83% complete," scheduled to finish in December) and the Arata STEM Academy for Girls ("42% complete," scheduled for next summer). He also said geothermal drilling, storm work, masonry and electrical work are underway at the Arata site, and that the board has approved two future projects: Henry Clay High School and a new elementary school on Greendale.
Superintendent Daniel Liggins (first reference as superintendent Liggins) and board members noted community support at recent ribbon cuttings and openings. Chair Murphy said the projects "represent some incredible and extraordinary community partnerships." The board did not take further action on the construction items at the June 23 meeting; Thompson concluded by pointing attendees to the district project pages for updates.
