The Scott County Board of Education on Monday approved a tentative fiscal 2025–26 budget and a 2025–26 salary schedule after public comment urging continued progress on employee pay.
During the public-comment period, Monica, president of SEA, thanked the board for moving “closer to the 5% raise” she had requested and for steps that make Scott County Schools more competitive in the region. “We recognize the discussions, the compromise, and the hard decisions that had to be made, and we’re generally grateful for the raise,” she said.
The board voted to approve the 2025–26 salary schedule (item 17 on the agenda) and the tentative fiscal 2025–26 budget (item 18). Board members moved and seconded the motions; each measure passed with the board voice vote “Aye” and the chair declaring the motion carries. The meeting record did not include an itemized roll-call vote or numeric tallies in the transcript.
Finance director Gina presented the district’s April 2025 cash summary earlier in the meeting, reporting a beginning cash balance of $49.6 million, receipts of about $8.5 million and expenditures of approximately $11.1 million, leaving an ending balance of about $47.4 million. Of that, roughly $7.1 million remained invested in construction projects, yielding an available ending cash balance of about $40.2 million.
Monica told the board that while the recent raise was “a step in the right direction,” she and employee representatives want the district to continue working toward additional compensation increases so Scott County can “lead the forefront across the region and the state.” Superintendent Billy noted the district recognizes budget limits and said administrators and the board would continue to work together on compensation and staffing decisions.
The board approved other budget-related agenda items that same evening, including committed funds classifications and tentative budget allocations; those motions also passed on voice votes. No additional details about exact raise percentages tied directly to the approved salary schedule were stated in the public transcript.
Board members said they will continue tracking financial data and program-level outcomes as the district moves from tentative to final budget adoption later in the fiscal process.
