New San Luis Toastmasters club launches, invites residents and city staff

Maria Guzman and Omar Herrera told the City Council that the San Luis Learners Toastmasters Club has been officially formed and is open to residents and city employees.
“Toastmasters International is a globally recognized nonprofit organization that helps individuals develop their public speaking, communication, and leadership skills,” Maria Guzman said, noting the local club meets at the WWC San Luis Learning Center and that meetings are volunteer-led and low-cost.
Omar Herrera, vice president of education for the club, said the program supports workforce and career readiness, helps entrepreneurs pitch ideas and is an inexpensive way to build leadership capacity. He thanked city employees who had visited club meetings and encouraged visibility or partnership opportunities.
Treasurer Rosa Mendoza invited council members and residents to attend meetings on the first and third Thursday at 12:15 p.m., noting a July scheduling change for a holiday week.
What happened: residents used the public-comment period to announce a new civic club and to invite civic participation; council members thanked the organizers.
Next steps: the club will continue to recruit members and explore partnerships with the city and local employers.
