Board approves Glenbrook path reconstruction, maintenance for Jackson Drive path

The Village of Jackson Board of Public Works voted June 24 to reconstruct the Glenbrook Drive path and to perform maintenance on the Jackson Drive path, awarding the reconstruction and maintenance work to contractors recommended in staff memos.

Jack, director of public works, told trustees the 2025 budget included $125,000 for Jackson Drive path work and $140,000 in the proposed master plan for Glenbrook Drive. After inspecting both paths, staff determined Glenbrook was in worse condition and recommended a full reconstruction for Glenbrook and a maintenance treatment for Jackson.

Jack recommended accepting the combined proposals from Poblocky Paving to reconstruct Glenbrook Drive (bid tab showed $88,000 in the memo and a motion referenced $88,505 on the floor) and a $7,300 maintenance quote for Jackson Drive to Johnson and Sons. He said the maintenance for Jackson would include routing and filling wide cracks and a two-layer seal coat and that the maintenance could extend the path’s life “for sure, anticipate another 5 years out of it,” depending on winter conditions.

Trustees discussed whether to delay reconstruction until a full pavement-rating master plan is completed this fall, which could change prioritization. Several trustees urged preserving pavement through regular crack-filling and seal-coating rather than deferring maintenance, and staff agreed to solicit additional maintenance quotes for other paths using leftover budget funds where feasible.

The motion to reconstruct Glenbrook Drive and to accept the Jackson Drive maintenance quote passed by voice vote. Staff will prepare bids and bring additional maintenance proposals for the board to consider in the coming months.
