Board approves $83,797 change order, advances pay request for Ridgeway Drive project

The Village of Jackson Board of Public Works on June 24 approved change order No. 1 for the Ridgeway Drive and Chestnut Court reconstruction project, increasing the contract by $83,797.32, and recommended pay request No. 2 for $219,429.58 to the Village Board and Budget and Finance committee.

Jack, director of public works, said the $83,797.32 covers work that “has been performed and will continue to be performed,” and highlighted a $33,500 storm-sewer catch-basin reconstruction item that was a bid item not in the original contract. He said that item proved necessary once crews opened the roadway: “when they dug open the road and found the condition, they needed to be replaced.”

Board members asked whether the additional work was an oversight or the result of unforeseen conditions in the field. Jack said it was partly an oversight and partly a reaction to conditions uncovered during excavation. The board also asked whether property owners or the village had requested particular adjustments; Jack said “the owner is, yes, the Village,” and that some field changes were agreed to by the former director and the contractor, and that several buildings had multiple discharge laterals tied together during reconstruction.

The change order motion (change order No. 1, Ridgeway Drive and Chestnut Court reconstruction, $83,797.32) was moved by Engelhardt, seconded by Sandebeck, and carried by voice vote. The board also voted to recommend pay request No. 2 for advanced construction in the amount of $219,429.58 to the Village Board; that motion was moved by Heckendorf and seconded by Engelhardt.
