County approves $3,600 contingency allocation to join Department of Agriculture spongy moth survey

County staff said the 2024 spongy moth survey returned results that flagged an area in Kent County for further assessment; the Department of Agriculture recommended 100–200 additional survey points for the fall/winter season at an estimated county cost between $1,800 and $3,600 depending on survey volume. Staff recommended allocating $3,600 from FY26 contingency funds and commissioners approved the full contingency authorization by voice vote.
No treatment was proposed at the meeting; staff said this action funds only additional survey work to confirm whether treatment will be necessary in future coordination with the Department of Agriculture.
