The Laconia City Council on June 23 approved a request to withdraw $71,000 from the Winter Maintenance Capital Reserve Fund to cover unbudgeted expenses incurred during the 2024–25 winter storm season.
City staff reported winter maintenance expenses for fiscal 2025 totaled $492,061.36, about $71,200.36 over the budgeted $420,860. Staff said the overage would place a “severe strain” on the Public Works Department budget if not offset by reserve funds. Approval of the withdrawal would reduce the reserve balance to approximately $114,958.
The council conducted a public hearing earlier in the meeting and then approved the resolution by roll-call vote, 5-0. Staff noted the reserve fund is intended to smooth costs over variable winter seasons and that additions to the reserve occur in milder years.
