Council approves $27,645 in downtown TIF funds for Pumpkin Festival lighting and improvements

The Laconia City Council on June 23 approved a request to use up to $27,645 from the Downtown Tax Increment Finance (TIF) fund for downtown improvements to support the Laconia Pumpkin Festival and future events.
Planned improvements identified by the Downtown TIF Advisory Board include updated rope lights for lamp poles, GFI outlet insulation on several poles, a control panel for Canal Street lighting, installation of color‑changing LED lights for Canal Street and additional landscaping. City staff said most items can be repurposed for holiday displays and future festivals.
City staff provided a cost estimate and noted the downtown TIF fund balance at the time was $745,929.96. The council approved the use of funds in a roll‑call vote, 5-0.
Staff said the equipment and lighting improvements would have an immediate benefit for the Pumpkin Festival and could be deployed for future events and seasonal lighting programs.
