The Town of Alton Board of Selectmen on June 24 approved a $4,085 expenditure to replace tank sensors and associated alarms at the highway building, drawing the funds from the highway equipment capital reserve.
Town staff told the board the expense included parts and labor to restore a system that had ceased functioning. The parts were cited at $2,335 and labor at $1,750, for a total of $4,085. The new installation will provide inside and outside light/sound alarms tied to the building’s alarm notification panel so the alarm company will call responders if the system trips.
The administrator said the replacement was done promptly because the town did not want to wait for a storm or other event that might fill tanks while the sensors were not working. The board approved the expenditure by voice vote and directed the cost to be taken from the highway building capital reserve fund rather than from the operating budget.
