Pon said the agreement would provide mentoring, academic support and tutoring for LGBTQ+ middle- and high-school students and their families; the commenter questioned the presence of academic tutoring in the organizations publicly described programs and raised concerns about program materials and prior support the organization had offered at earlier meetings.
Pon said the Reading Rainbow program described on the organizations website focuses on literature for LGBTQIA+ participants and expressed concern about minors participating in certain programming without parental involvement. The speaker urged the board to withhold support for the funding increase and said they supported a separate agenda item (9.06).
