The Metropolitan Council approved business item 2025‑148 on June 25 to award Livable Communities Tax‑Base Revitalization Account grants totaling $2,432,200 to support seven development sites in six communities.
Councilmember Loelegrino presented the item, describing expected outcomes from the recommended projects: roughly 16 acres of contaminated land cleanup upon completion; an annual tax‑base increase of more than $300,000; the creation and retention of about 200 full‑time equivalent jobs; and 94 affordable housing units distributed across income tiers (49 rental units affordable to households earning below 30% of metropolitan median income, 26 rental units at 60% of median income and 20 home‑ownership units at 80% of area median income). The recommended grants are expected to leverage nearly $80 million in private investment, the staff report said.
Loelegrino moved the recommendation and the motion was seconded. The council voted by voice; the motion carried.
The council authorized the executive director of community development to execute grant agreements on behalf of the council. Councilmember Loelegrino and other members thanked staff for their work on the program and highlighted the grants as part of a continuing effort to support redevelopment and affordable housing across small and midsize communities in the region.
