Sunbury City Council accepted Councilwoman Martinez—s resignation and voted to appoint Lisa Martina to the position of city treasurer effective July 1, the council announced Monday.
The council chair said Martinez submitted a letter of interest for the treasurer position and that the solicitor advised the council it could appoint her at the same meeting because she was the only applicant received by the 4 p.m. deadline. The council member then moved to accept Martinez—s resignation from council at the end of the voting items and to appoint her as city treasurer effective July 1; members voted in favor of both actions during the meeting.
The council also announced it will accept letters of interest to fill Martinez—s remaining council term. The deadline to apply is July 11 at 4 p.m. The council plans a July work session to hold public interviews; council members said interviews will be open for the public to attend, followed by an executive session for candidate deliberations and a regular meeting vote to make an appointment.
Council members discussed timing and noted that acceptance of the resignation and the appointment were recorded separately during the meeting. The council chair instructed the city clerk—s office to accept applications and to publish the interview schedule once it is set.
