The Navasota City Council on June 23 approved a memorandum of understanding with Navasota Independent School District to accept five inoperable vehicles for use in fire-rescue training.
Fire Chief Jason Kajkowski said the vehicles will be transported and stored by a wrecker service arranged by the school district; the wrecker service will retain any scrap proceeds to cover hauling and storage costs. Kajkowski and other council members discussed whether the wrecker service should have a separate agreement with the city once ownership transfers; legal counsel and staff noted the vehicles become city property upon formal acceptance.
Kajkowski said the vehicles will be used for “jaws of life” and rescue training. Council approved the MOU on a motion by Councilmember Gessner with a second; the motion passed by voice vote. City staff were directed to follow up with the wrecker service and finalize administrative arrangements for transportation and storage.
