Staff presented the property history: the house was first constructed in about 1830 and is among the oldest residential properties in Canal Winchester; it has had rear additions in the 1930s and 1940s and a front porch removed in 1988. The applicant was not present.
Commissioners expressed concern about the use of glass block on an 1830s house, whether the windows are visible from the public right of way, and whether any of the openings require egress. Staff said photographs show varying window sizes and conditions, some with iron grates and some with vents; staff also noted uncertainty about whether some openings would be fitted with integrated vents or dryer vents in the new work.
Several commissioners said metal-frame basement windows are often repairable and asked for more detailed information about window materials, dimensions, visibility from the street, and whether the openings require egress. Staff offered to relay the comments and to return the application the following month if the applicant provides the requested details.
A motion to table CA-25-029 for further review passed on roll call with all present commissioners voting yes.
