The board accepted the administration’s recommendation to award the surplus technology equipment bid to Ingram Micro for a combined total of $500,000, following an invitation for bids on May 7 and a review period that closed May 27.
Nut graf: District technology leaders said this marks the largest response they have seen to a surplus technology sale — 19 bids — and that the recommended award balances price with vendor qualifications, background checks and assurances about contract performance.
Jody Johnson, director of technology, told the board the items placed in surplus were older MacBooks and iPads without active warranties and that the district sought bidders qualified to handle, transport and pay for school devices. Johnson said the team vetted bidders by checking publicly available media for litigation or negative press, reviewing bidder documentation and processes, and considering geographic footprint and local presence. He said the bid evaluation emphasized proven, reputable processes to avoid prior instances in the industry where resellers acquired assets and failed to pay schools.
The board approved the recommendation by motion and voice vote; the motion carried. Administrators noted the sale proceeds are substantially higher than the district’s $300,000 estimate and said the funds will help offset future equipment lease or refresh costs.
Ending: Johnson told the board he expected a smooth transaction with the chosen vendor and expressed a “very, very high expectation” there would be no issues with payment or turnover; the board instructed staff to proceed with the award and contract administration.
