The Jackson County Legislature announced a public hearing on the proposed 2025 annual budget, ordinance 5986, to be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 9, at the Kansas City Downtown Courthouse.

The item was introduced to the legislature as the proposed annual budget "for the fiscal year ending 12/31/2025," but the committee report said the measure is being held pending a public hearing. A county staff member instructed that the hearing will occur during the legislature's meeting at 3 p.m.: "It'll be at 03:00," the clerk said.

Ordinance 5986 would adopt appropriations for the county's various spending agencies for the 2025 fiscal year. The legislature took no final action on the ordinance at the June 2 meeting; the item remains subject to the scheduled public hearing and any testimony or amendments that arise there.

The legislature noted the next legislative meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 9, at 3 p.m. at the Kansas City Downtown Courthouse, when the budget hearing will be held.
