Pat Gardner, speaking during public comment at the June 23 Anacortes City Council meeting, asked for an update on a proposed event center and whether the planned location near Cap Sante was still being pursued.
Mayor Miller replied that the city is "still working with the Port of Anacortes to move forward with an event," indicating ongoing collaboration but offering no new schedule or funding details during the meeting. Gardner, who said her nonprofit uses the existing event center at Seafair Park from November through March, urged progress and warned that costs will rise the longer planning continues.
Council did not vote on the event center, and no new budget, site approval, or agreement with the Port was presented at the meeting. Staff and the mayor characterized the matter as an active interagency discussion rather than a finalized project.
