San Luis trustees approve RFPs for Mexico-network third-party and medical-provider administrators

The San Luis Employee Benefits Trust on May 1 authorized staff to issue requests for proposals for a third-party administrator (TPA) and a medical-provider administrator for the city’s Mexico network, trustees and staff said.
Trust staff said the action is intended to make sure the trust has the best partner managing health benefits across the U.S. and Mexico. "We are here today asking for approval to go for request for proposals of a third party administrator and a medical provider administrator for our Mexico, network," said Adela Cortez, director of human resources.
Cortez told trustees that CRmed, the current Mexico-network provider, has served the trust for more than 15 years and that putting services out to bid is standard practice. She said the trust would issue the RFPs in January; she also said the current contracts "expire on June thirtieth of 20 26." Cortez confirmed that CRmed may submit a proposal and that the proposals would be evaluated like any other bidder.
Board members asked whether there had been complaints about CRmed. "I I don't have that information. A survey was conducted, but it's mainly because the agency has been providing the service for so long that we wanna make sure that we have, the best solution," Cortez said. Trustees did not provide additional complaint details during the discussion.
A motion "to approve the staff recommendation and invite the development of the request for proposal for a third party administrator and medical provider administrator as presented" was made and seconded; the motion passed on an affirmative voice vote.
The vote followed a short discussion about process and bidders' ability to compete; staff said the RFP timeline is intended to ensure continuity before current contracts expire. No additional conditions or amendments to the staff recommendation were adopted at the meeting.
Trustees closed the item and moved on to contract-renewal business later in the agenda.
