Council sets budget workshop, shifts several meeting dates; staff outlines tax‑roll timeline

City staff told the council they will hold a preliminary budget workshop on Friday, July 18, and that the county's certified tax rolls are expected around July 25, triggering the expedited steps required to adopt a budget and property tax rate.

Staff said the council will hold council meetings on August 5 and August 19 to cover required budget and tax‑rate public hearings. The council then approved moving the August meeting dates and shifting the November and December meetings up one week to accommodate holidays; the new dates set by motion were November 18 and December 16.

"We did receive preliminary tax rolls or tax information in late April. This data does show that we will see a small increase in assessed valuations for the year ... we will receive the final certified tax rolls around July 25," staff said. Following receipt of the certified rolls, staff said they will immediately calculate tax‑rate impacts and begin publishing required public notices.

Council members confirmed the dates and asked staff to advise if absences might conflict with required supermajority votes on any items. Staff noted an order of election and charter items will likely appear on the August 5 agenda if timelines proceed as expected.
