District seeks board permission to recycle or dispose of outdated technology inventory

The inventory list provided to the board includes older iPads that cannot be updated, laptop carts that are no longer functional, aging projectors, VCRs and older cart televisions. IT staff said obsolete equipment is typically recycled, and in many cases the district receives funds from a recycling vendor; usable items that are not needed by schools will be offered for donation when possible.
"We're looking to recycle the old and not usable items. We are keeping some laptop carts and stuff that we do use for state testing," an IT staff member said. Board members asked whether the district could first offer usable surplus to local organizations; staff confirmed they will attempt donations where feasible but that most items on the disposal list are not usable and will be recycled.
Staff requested board approval to include the disposal/recycling list on the next board meeting agenda so the board can authorize disposition per procurement and asset‑management rules. The board did not act at the work session; staff will place the item on the regular meeting agenda for board action.
