Mason County commissioners authorized staff June 24 to submit an application for a state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) public services award totaling $105,000 to support services delivered by the Community Action Council of Lewis, Mason and Thurston counties.
Jennifer Beyerly, support services, told the board that Mason County coordinates annually with the Community Action Council and that this year's allotment is $105,000. "This year's allotment is 105,000," Beyerly said while explaining that the county must solicit public input as part of the application process.
Commissioners held a public hearing required for the grant application; no members of the public testified. To ensure the county's application proceeds without procedural issues, a commissioner moved and the board approved a motion allowing staff to submit the application and, if awarded, allocate funds to the Community Action Council. The motion included the condition "if received," making award contingent on the state's grant decision.
County staff said a separate public hearing would be held later to close out the prior grant cycle. The county's action on June 24 does not award money to the council directly; it authorizes the application and potential pass-through if the state grant is awarded.
