Union County Public Schools facilities staff told the Facilities Committee on June 25 that the North Carolina Department of Transportation has requested a small additional area for easement acquisition related to Weddington Road widening, increasing the compensation to the district by about $3,000.
Facilities staff member Moore told the committee DOT "indicated they need just a little a little bit more area" and that the change "resulted in about $3,000 increase to the amount of money they'll be paying us for that easement." Moore described the discussion as informational. Committee members asked what additional steps would be needed when construction begins; Moore said DOT will provide additional compensation for signage and that the district will reconfigure three driveway entrances as part of the DOT work.
The committee did not vote on the easement at this meeting; the item was presented for information and staff said additional details will be provided as the project moves forward.
