Bond project update: East demo begins; Forest Hills work proceeding, committee told

Union County Public Schools facilities staff updated the Facilities Committee on June 25 about bond-funded work at East and Forest Hills schools and said interior demolition at the East site has begun.
Facilities staff member McManus told the committee that demolition (“demo”) at East has started and that the interior work should finish "today or tomorrow," with exterior demolition that is visible from outside expected to begin late this week or early next week. McManus described the equipment in use and said, "It's gonna be there's 2 large track hose out there, so they're gonna be banging away at it. It's not gonna be it's definitely not gonna be an implosion, kinda fall down upon itself."
The item was presented as informational. Committee members asked clarifying, conversational questions about the demolition method; staff clarified there would be no implosion or dynamite and that the work would be performed by tracked excavators. No committee action was required or taken on the bond update at this meeting.
The committee also received the bond status for Forest Hills; staff described both updates as self-explanatory and did not present changes requiring committee approval. The Facilities Committee scheduled no July meeting and noted the next meeting will be Aug. 27 at 9 a.m. via Zoom.
