RCK fifth graders honored at East Islip Union Free School District moving-up ceremony

At a moving-up ceremony hosted by the East Islip Union Free School District, RCK students received awards, were introduced as the Class of 2025 and closed the program with remarks from student council officers and staff.
The ceremony opened with a pledge led by Koziel Ventura Mejica and Giada Russo and included acknowledgements of district and school staff: Dr. Bells, Dr. O'Rourke, Mr. Gagliano, Mr. Harrison and Mr. Manzo. Mr. Ruhlin, vice president of the Board of Education, attended the event, and Felix Gonzalez, identified as the school's head custodian, was recognized for his work arranging logistics. The school also thanked RCKPTA representatives Mrs. Deneen and Mrs. Frazier.
The program presented several named awards. Presenters included Mrs. Ailucci and Mrs. Sternberg for the American Citizenship Award; winners announced included Sofia Barreta, Mark Bautista, Brooke Frazier, Annabelle Iteri, Hunter Ivers, Oliver James, Ernesto Martinez Lopez and Emma Monahan, among others listed during the ceremony. An Excellence award was noted as following criteria set by a 2012 awards committee for students earning threes and fours on fourth- and fifth-grade report cards. Physical-education awards, including the East Science of Physical Education Spirit and the Suffolk Zone Award, were presented by Mr. Longovardi and Mr. Geek; winners named included Kaden Smith, Kaden Kramer, Olivia D. Dimisi, Scarlett Zuwin, Leila Pena Martinez and Lucas Gonzalez.
Staff introduced the class of 2025 by classroom groups; teachers delivered brief remarks expressing pride and best wishes for middle school. Vincent Spiro, a social worker and student council advisor, introduced student council officers Aubrey Fox and Chelsea Marnelli, who offered the ceremony's closing remarks and thanked families and teachers. The ceremony ended with logistical notes for parent pick-up locations.
“Keep your attitude of gratitude, cultivating a mindset and habit of consciously appreciating and being thankful for the good things in life, big and small,” a school staff member said during closing remarks.
No policy votes or formal district decisions were taken at the event; the program was a celebratory ceremony recognizing student achievement and school community contributions.
