Tumwater staff say new permit review timelines implemented; commission seeks clearer reporting

Staff said the recent permitting changes include clearer “stop‑the‑clock” procedures, standard revision‑request processes and published timelines intended to make reviews more transparent. A staff member explained, “We have implemented that, and we are we've already reported to the state on our time frames once already.”

Commissioners pressed staff on the meaning of the reported timelines and asked that future reports include context such as staffing levels and whether the office was fully staffed during the reporting period. One commissioner noted that staffing shortages can materially affect review times and asked staff to flag staffing as a factor in public reporting.
