City of Maricopa asks legislature to fund remaining safety projects on SR‑347 corridor

Katie Proctor, representing the City of Maricopa, testified to the House Appropriations Committee that three previously legislatively approved projects on the State Route 347 corridor remain unfunded and need supplemental money to finish. She described the projects as important safety improvements and said local partners have already invested substantial sums.
Proctor told the committee Mag (the Maricopa Association of Governments) has committed more than $90 million, the City of Maricopa $30 million, Pinal County $20 million, and the State Transportation Board recently committed $6 million to corridor widening. "These projects are the last projects that are not funded right now. They are extremely important," she said.
During committee discussion Chairman Livingston and members noted several transportation bills and related capital outlay measures remain available as paths to fund large projects such as I‑10 widening and the 347 corridor work. The chair suggested that individual bills that are ready for third reading should be taken up and sent to the governor as a route to secure funding outside the continuation package.
Proctor’s testimony was limited to the capital outlay continuation bill (HB2964) and asked the committee to preserve or provide the supplemental dollars needed to finish the corridor improvements.
