The Johnson County Board of Commissioners approved a consent agenda and related contract awards on June 23, including change orders for the parks department, acceptance of engineering proposals for Independence Park Pickleball Courts, and award of a painting contract for the juvenile justice lobby.
During routine business the board approved annual agreements with the sheriff's office, change orders for the juvenile detention center and park projects, and Crossroads Engineers' proposed proposal for Independence Park Pickleball Courts. Commissioners praised recent park improvements and noted the Renaissance Festival drew more than 8,000 attendees at Johnson County Park over the weekend.
A commissioner asked a question about specific change-order line items for metal edging on park work; a county representative explained that some edging work required re-excavation along a curb due to a site "jut out," which changed labor and material costs for that portion of the work.
Separately, the board accepted and awarded a painting contract for the juvenile justice lobby after only one bid was received. The item was noted to be procured pursuant to Indiana Code (procurement citation on the agenda) and staff said they would determine appropriate departmental payment source for the work. Commissioners moved to approve the award and the motion carried.
The board also approved claims and credit-card payments after auditing questions were clarified. The meeting concluded with an approved motion to adjourn.
