The Fairhope City Council rescinded a prior notice of award to Shade America for 16 shade structures at Milanda Sports Park and awarded the contract to the second lowest responsive bidder, Great Southern Recreation, with a not‑to‑exceed project amount of $187,298.
The council’s report said Shade America had been presented a notice of award for bid #25‑30 on May 12, 2025, but failed to submit all required documentation and was unresponsive to requests for licensing and paperwork for at least 60 days. After evaluation under the bid specifications, city staff recommended awarding to the next responsive and responsible bidder to keep the project on schedule.
Council members moved to award the contract to Great Southern Recreation and approved the motion by voice vote with no recorded dissent.
City staff said the decision was intended to expedite procurement and allow construction to proceed. No additional funding sources or schedule details beyond the awarded amount were recorded during the meeting.
