Board approves street closures for three summer and fall city events, including state-highway festival approval pending DOT timing

The Logansport City Board of Public Works and Safety approved three separate city street-closure requests during its June 25 meeting: a Loveland's Landing "Chock the Block" Art Festival, the Hornet Creek Festival on Sept. 13, and a temporary closure for All Saints' mobile food pantry on June 27.

Street department staff presented the Loveland's Landing request to close North Street from Fifth Street to an adjacent block for a festival scheduled July 26; staff said the closure would not impede highway traffic and the festival itself runs from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The board approved the request by voice vote.

For the Hornet Creek Festival, staff said applicants requested closing Sixth Street from East Broadway to the north for a beer-and-wine festival on Sept. 13 and that the group had approval from the Indiana Department of Transportation (NDOT) for the closure. Staff recommended the board retain authority to shift the closure start time if needed; they suggested a possible change from a 6 a.m. start to 8 a.m. if required. The board approved the closure on the city's end; NDOT retains authority over state-highway timing.

All Saints asked to block Second Street to operate a mobile food pantry June 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; the board approved that request as presented.

Motions to accept each street-closure request passed with yes votes recorded from Jacob Palmaso and Levi Jones. Staff noted the street department will issue any necessary permits and coordinate traffic detours, including routing traffic onto Fourth Street where noted.
