Hickman County rejects proposal to raise election commissioners’ per-meeting pay to $100

Hickman County commissioners declined to raise compensation for members of the County Election Commission to $100 per meeting after a tied 6–6 vote with two members absent.
The measure, introduced as resolution 25-18 and sponsored by Commissioner Dusty Jordan and Commissioner Steve Giannaka, sought to increase per-meeting pay for election commissioners from the statutory minimum (discussed in packet as $55 per meeting) to $100 per meeting. Proponents said election commissioners carry significant responsibilities and that the board previously increased pay in 2006–2007 to $80 per meeting. One sponsor argued the increase would recognize the workload and the county’s strong election administration record.
Opponents cited consistency with other constitutional officers’ pay and fiscal concerns. After the roll-call vote produced 6 in favor, 6 opposed and 2 absent, the chair announced the resolution was not approved.
