The LaSalle County Salary and Labor Committee voted to set a salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 for the county's maintenance department director position and authorized staff to begin recruiting for the role.
County staff told the committee they had prepared a job description and were ready to post the vacancy on the county website and on Indeed. The staff presentation said the position oversees the government complex on Enna Road, the health department and emergency management building, the downtown courthouse, the nursing home and the sheriff's department facilities; those sites operate 24/7 and current staff across the facilities number roughly seven, with up to 10 positions potentially filled as vacancies are addressed. "We have prepared and are ready to start the recruiting process to replace the current director who is retiring," the county staff member said, adding that comparables through the UCCI supported the proposed pay range.
Committee members debated process and oversight. Some members said the property committee should have input on the job description and recommended changes be forwarded; others said the Salary and Labor Committee has authority to set salary ranges under board rules and that property could provide input but not necessarily a final veto. The committee agreed to set the salary range now while subjecting the job description to property committee review; if property proposed changes, the item would return for further consideration.
Melissa (committee member) offered the motion that the committee adopt the salary range $80,000 to $100,000 and proceed with recruitment, subject to property committee review of the job description. The motion was seconded and passed on a voice and roll-call vote with no recorded opposition. Staff said the property committee meeting timeline may be tight for the upcoming Friday agenda but could still discuss the job description informally.
The committee did not record in the transcript any specific funding line or budget transfer to cover the position at the new range.
