Montgomery County commissioners presented scholarships to 10 recent high school graduates at the commission's June 2025 meeting, with Commissioner Carmen Moore Ziegler funding six of the awards and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Foundation funding the remainder.
The scholarships were presented as part of a foundation effort started by Sheriff Cunningham to support local students. "This is a happy day. Nothing brings people together more like money," a county presenter said during the ceremony.
Commissioners saidRecipients were selected using several criteria including academic performance, attendance, recommendations and civic involvement, the presenters said. The commission read the names of 10 recipients; those announced included Anissa Mack, Jadarian Callaway, Mason Hatch, Zaiasia Belser, Zian Reynolds, Jordan Graves and Aaron Michael Tyler. Not all recipients attended the ceremony.
The presentation included photographs with commissioners after each recipient received a certificate and scholarship. The presenters said seven students had RSVP'd and were present for the group photo.
No formal vote or policy change accompanied the presentation; it was given as an item on the commission's regular agenda.
