The Metuchen Board of Education finance committee reported on June 24 that the district is short about $5,000 after some families failed to pay a second transportation installment, and it said students whose families do not pay will not be permitted to ride district buses in the 2025-26 school year.
"District is short, dollars 5,000," committee presenter Mr. Suss said while summarizing the finance committee—s discussion. The committee voted to direct that families who do not pay the installment will not be able to ride the bus in the 2025-26 school year.
The committee also discussed transportation eligibility for parents who live outside established busing boundaries and reviewed a technology audit, property and casualty insurance coverage plans and a safety grant that will be applied to energy management and mold prevention work. The board will invite an insurance expert to a future meeting to discuss coverage options.
Board members and staff later reminded families that the bus payment deadline is Friday and encouraged parents to submit checks on time to avoid losing eligibility.
The action reported was a committee recommendation enforced administratively; the board recorded finance items B1 through B47 on the consent agenda and the roll-call vote carried.
