Monroe Local advances facilities work: gym infill on schedule, second driveway talks with county and ODOT, commissioning agent and urgent piping repair approved

"We're scheduled to start utilizing those classrooms in January, '26," Buskirk said, describing the gym infill as on schedule and a relief for overcrowding. He added that architectural work on the new high school has advanced to conceptual designs and that design from start to finish is approximately one year, with an objective to break ground in spring after final design steps.
Buskirk said ODOT acknowledged the intersection of state Route 63 and Yankee Road needs improvements but indicated the state would not hold the district responsible for paying for those improvements; that leaves county coordination as the next step. "ODOT was in agreement. So now it is, you know, just the county," Buskirk said. A district meeting with county officials was scheduled to begin design work for the second driveway.
On agenda consent items the board approved a consultant agreement with 4 Seasons to serve as commissioning agent for the high school project; the motion was moved by Mr. Leeds and seconded by Mr. Grant and carried on roll call. The board also approved a resolution of urgent necessity and a contract with Comfort Systems to repair main campus chilled‑water and hot piping after district staff described leaks in the system as needing immediate attention. The urgent repair motion was moved by Mr. Grant and seconded by Mr. Leeds and carried.
The board also authorized replacement and repair of playground fence gates at NES and agreed to seek painting quotes once repairs are complete.
Discussion: Board members and staff stressed coordination with county engineers and ODOT for driveway improvements and said the commissioning agent will help the district evaluate long‑term maintainability of design choices and mechanical systems.
