Tipton city leaders reported on June 17 that conditional offers of employment were extended to two police candidates and that the county has moved to a shared dispatch and records system.
City officials said the Board of Works interviewed applicants and extended conditional offers to Cameron Shane and to Catherine Riley, a 21-year-old Marine Corps reservist who — if she clears required screenings and training — would be Tipton’s first female patrol officer in recent memory.
A city speaker said Shane has prior service as a Purple Heart recipient and several years of construction work and that both candidates performed well in interviews. The city official said, “If they pass everything, that will finally get us back to full staff.”
Officials also reported the county now uses a single records and dispatch system so all county dispatch calls and records are shared. The city speaker described that change as meaning “all calls to dispatch will be heard by everybody in the county” and that records are now shared across agencies.
Council members had no formal vote on hires during the council meeting; the Board of Works extended conditional offers and will proceed with background checks, academy training and other required steps before final appointments are confirmed.
