Staff noted one of the two signs (the Taejin logo above the entrance) qualified for administrative approval because it met individual code allowances; the requested exception applies to the second sign that spells out “Texas Taejin.”
Applicant statement Owners of the restaurant told the commission the second sign is intended to increase brand recognition in the market. “Taejin, the Texas Taejin is our full name,” one applicant said. They told the commission they planned to open in July and that the additional sign would help customers identify the concept and differentiate it from other cuisines.
Criteria and decision The UDC special‑exception criteria consider impacts on surrounding properties, harmony with the code’s purpose, whether the request demonstrates increased quality and whether the result is aesthetically appropriate. Commissioners found the two signs were compatible with the building façade and consistent with commercial signage standards in the area. The commission voted unanimously to recommend approval; the item will be on the City Council agenda July 15 for final action.
