Council awards contract to demolish Chelmsford Pool; city staff say structure will be hauled off-site and backfilled

The Mayfield Heights City Council voted June 23 to award a contract to Baumann Enterprises Inc. for the demolition of the Chelmsford (Councilor Ford/Chelmsford) pool.
Schmidlin presented Resolution 2025-34, which awards the demolition contract per the bid specifications. Council received a memo from the city’s engineering consultant; staff said five companies submitted bids and Baumann Enterprises submitted the lowest bid, which came in below the engineer’s estimate and the budgeted amount for the project.
Councilmember Talvin asked for clarification about how the pool would be handled. Nick Brunello of the service department explained the scope: "The plan is to demolish the pool structure and haul it off-site and then backfill it," Brunello said. He and other staff added that the demolition plan calls for salvaging existing storm-sewer structures and noted there was no known current drainage problem at the site.
Councilmember Miner asked whether the sewer infrastructure under or near the pool would be inspected during demolition. Staff said the county could be asked to televise (video-inspect) the pipe if council wanted a camera inspection; staff said that was not included in the immediate demolition scope but could be arranged.
The motion to award the contract was moved by Councilmember Manno and seconded by Councilmember Balestreya; the roll call vote to approve was unanimous.
